Neuromuscular therapy is a system of massage techniques that were developed in the 1930's by Dr. Stanley Lief in England. It uses a holistic approach towards healing, emphasizing and stimulating the body's natural ability to heal itself. Neuromuscular therapy also enhances the function of joints and muscles, and accelerates the overall healing process by facilitating the release of endorphins.
Neuromuscular therapy can be very taxing on a body so I will typically use NMT on your problem areas coupled with relaxing Swedish to facilitate the healing process.
Deep Tissue Massage is a form of bodywork that aims to relieve tension in the deeper layers of tissue in the body. Deep Tissue Massage is a highly effective method for releasing chronic stress areas due to misalignment, repetitive motions, and past lingering injuries. Due to the nature of the deep tissue work, open communication during the session is crucial to make sure you don't get too uncomfortable. Keep in mind that soreness is pretty common after the treatment, and that plenty of water should be ingested to aid with the flushing and removal of toxins that will have been released from the deep tissue during the session.
Developed by Aaron Mattes, Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) is a dynamic system for improving your flexibility and overall well-being. As you probably already know, stretching your muscles not only reduces your chance of injury, but also strengthens your tendons and improves your circulation. As the name implies you are very active during this type of stretching. Please bring or wear stretchy/loose fitting clothing.
Curious if acupuncture would work for you but scared of needles? Acupressure works on the same principles and "trigger points."
Acupressure is based on one the most ancient principles of healing - that simply touching a specific point on the body will release stress and improve health in the body. In an acupressure session, I apply firm pressure directly to these "points" on your body, which relieves your muscle tension and improves your circulation. This simple and powerful technique has been shown to be very effective in treating headaches, backaches, and even insomnia.
Be sure to ask for acupressure when booking your appointment so I can be prepared for your specific concerns beforehand.
Swedish Massage is a very relaxing and therapeutic style of bodywork. It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion to help the body improve its circulation. The benefits of this type of bodywork are wide-ranging and include relief from aches and pains, decreased stress levels in the body, enhanced mental clarity, improved appearance, and greater flexibility.
Pregnancy Massage is a style of bodywork designed specifically for pregnant women. Pregnancy is a time when a woman's body endures tremendous stress due to dramatic physical and emotional changes. Using various techniques specially developed for the expecting mother, Pregnancy Massage helps release the pain and discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy. The benefits are profound, including emotional support, the relief of joint pain due to extra weight and postural imbalance, and improved breathing and relaxation.
Stretching in the hips area can also assist in a faster and easier delivery, and postpartum healing.
Sports Massage is a type of massage designed for highly active people who engage in athletics. Engaging in sports is harsh on the body and can often lead to injuries in both the short and long term. Sports Massage enhances performance and prolongs a sports career by helping to prevent injury, reduce pains and swelling in the body, relax the mind, increase flexibility, and dramatically improve recovery rates. Sports Massage is also highly effective in aiding the rapid recovery of an athlete from an injury by encouraging greater kinesthetic awareness and in turn promoting the body's natural immune function.
Coupling passive and active stretching along with deep tissue and relaxing modalities so that your body will be able to endure more activity for longer periods of time.
Trigger Point Therapy is a style of bodywork that focuses on stimulating and releasing "trigger points" in your body. Trigger points are tender areas of tension similar to acupressure points, except they occur in the belly of the muscle rather than along the energy pathways of the body. These "knots" are built up throughout a person's life due to physical, mental, and/or emotional stress. During a session, focused pressure is applied through a variety of techniques in order to release your trigger points. This process can be quite painful at times, yet the effects are lasting and profoundly transformative.
Cupping is an ancient technique formally used with glass cups and fire to pull up on the tissue allowing increased circulation to all areas of the muscles and working it from all angles rather then just the top. We now have silicone cupping tools that do not require heat, but offer the same benefits without the risk of injury. Research shows that 30 min of cupping can be equal to the relief and benefits received from an hour of deep tissue, but without the pain that many experience with deep tissue massage. Keep in mind that cupping can leave you with round welts on some targeted areas. They usually heal within a day or two and sometimes within just a few hours depending on how much cupping a specific area receives and how your body responds.
Cupping is also shown to help with cellulite reduction and healing of scar tissue. I offer an "add-on" cellulite reduction service using It Works Defining Gel on the targeted area along with the cupping, $5 per area.
I also offer targeted cupping for areas of chronic pain such as knees, shoulders, or relief from carpal tunnel syndrome and many other ailments that cause chronic pain. These sessions can be as quick as 15 min and start at only $20. Call for your free consultation.
